Christmas coverage and PayPal update

December 19th, 2008

Today we issued a press release reminding people that GetThemIn is perfect for sorting out those last minute Christmas present dilemmas or getting the Christmas drinks in with your mates without actually being there. And, just in case you missed it, we also subtly announced that we’ve switched from Google Checkout to PayPal, in response to requests from all of our users. We think it’s even easier to use the GetThemIn application now and really value your feedback, so keep it coming.

We were also featured in the Guardian, which we’re pretty chuffed about. Click through for the full piece and check out some of the retweets and comments we’re getting on Twitter right now. Oh and if you do have any questions then please do get in touch at press(at)getthemin(dot)com.

Have a great Christmas and see you all in the New Year.

New “How does GetThemIn work?” video

December 8th, 2008

After a great launch, we’ve been inundated with interest from all corners of the world, with loads of exciting brands keen to find out more about GetThemIn and the potential to partner with us. In between getting back to everyone’s emails, phone calls and working on the next version of the GetThemIn app, we’ve also managed to make this - a short video that explains GetThemIn in an ever-so-slightly tongue in cheek, hopefully amusing kind of way.

It features the star-studded line-up of Jay, ‘John’ and ‘Chris’ from GetThemIn - let us know what you think!

Amongst all the press coverage we’ve had since launch, we were also recently featured on Springwise and Brand Republic where Jay was quoted rather nicely as saying:

“It is fantastic to have the UK’s leading independent specialist drinks retailer as our partner in our debut Facebook application that allows people to buy each other real alcoholic drinks over social networking sites for the first time ever.”

More updates soon - get in touch if you have any questions, ideas or just want to say hi.

GetThemIn at the Facebook Developer Garage

November 20th, 2008

Last week we were invited to give a demo of GetThemIn at the monthly Facebook Developer Garage, ran by Joshua March and held at Sun Microsystems. The audience seemed to really like the app and certainly had loads of questions for Martin before, during and afterwards, which was great.

Here’s a quick video of the demo which gives you a good overview of the app, along with all those questions. If you have any that aren’t covered here then please do get in touch.

The numbers of people trying out GetThemIn has been growing steadily since launch and we’ve received loads of feedback - so watch this space and let us know if you have any thoughts or questions in the meantime.

GetThemIn Turns Facebook into a Virtual Bar, with Real Drinks

November 7th, 2008

GetThemIn launches the first online application that allows people to send each other alcohol as a gift instantly over the internet

GetThemIn today announces the launch of its debut Facebook application that allows people to buy each other real beer, wine or other alcoholic drinks for the first time ever.

People can choose from a variety of drinks and other real-world gifts and send them to their friends using the Facebook platform and Google Checkout. Recipients receive a personalised message from the sender via SMS, email and Facebook, with the option to redeem their gift as a voucher that can then be used in one of hundreds of First Quench outlets across the UK (including Threshers, The Local, Wine Rack and Haddows).

“Virtual gifts have proven to be hugely popular on Facebook and we’ve taken this one step further with the GetThemIn application. People can now buy their friends virtual gifts that can easily be exchanged for the real thing. With a GetThemIn participating store within ten minutes of most people in the UK, it’s a really innovative yet simple way of marking a special occasion with a drink between friends,” said Jay Feeney, Founder of GetThemIn.

Drink brands available on the GetThemIn application at launch include Fosters, Cobra, Heineken, Tuborg, San Miguel, Bulmers Cider, Newcastle Brown, WKD Blue, Old Peculier, Blossom Hill, Hardy’s, Taittinger, Radcliffe’s D.B., Teacher’s, Cockburn’s S.R., Harvey’s Bristol Cream and Courvoisier V.S.

GetThemIn has been officially granted the DrinkAware trust trademark license and will be donating a percentage of its profits to COUNTED4, a unique venture that treats, counsels and promotes the health and well-being of anyone affected by substance misuse.
